Rainbow Serpent Festival – Already in
Istanbul a guy from Australia told me about the Rainbow Serpent
festival. It is known to be the best festival in hole Australia.
Cause I had my one year work and travel visa already I thougth I will
never be so close again and should use the chance to go there. So I
did and looked forward to a great time. :D
On my way to Australia I already met
the first people which also made there way to the RSF. The tension
was growing! Arrived at the Melbourne airport I was picked up from my
friend Sina, who moved to Australia a long time ago. She explained me
how it works in Australia, that I will need a MyKi, which is a kind
of prepaid card for the public transport, how I get from a to b and
everything else. She lives together with her husband Adrian, there
dog Budda and the cat in a nice flat in St. Kilda. So I prepared
myself for the festival. Adrian lent me there tent and what I needed
for camping. The RSF is a “bring your own stuff” festival. So I
bought the food and drinks I will need for the four days. As I saw
all the prices in Australia I was pretty shocked! 25 Dollar for a
Pizza in a Restaurant. A beer is up to 8 Dollar. This is my daily
budget! WOW!
The Ticket costed me 300 Australian
Dollar, so I decided to took the chance to work at the festival to
get it refunded. I got the job as a shift leader at the helpershut
south. Bevor the festival started I got some information material and
had to do a little test. Everything was good explained and logical.
So no worries about that. :)
At the festival itself I decided not to
look at the money, cause I worked there to get the refund and I want
to enjoy the time. So I did! Here are some impressions from the
nicest festival in hole Australia....
Rainbow Serpent Festival – Schon in Istanbul haben mir die ersten Leute vom Rainbow Serpent erzählt. Es wird als das beste Festival in ganz Australien bezeichnet. Da ich mein Work and Travel Visum schon in der Tasche hatte, dachte ich mir, werde ich nie wieder so nah dran sein und sollte die Chance nutzen. Also tat ich es und freute mich auf eine tolle Zeit! :D
Schon auf meinem Weg zum Festival traf ich immer wieder auf Leute die sich ebenfalls auf den Weg gemacht hatten. Alle waren voller Vorfreude und die Spannung stieg! Angekommen am Flughafen in Melbourne wurde ich von Sina, einer Freundin aus Deutschland, die vor langer Zeit nach Australien gezogen ist abgeholt. Sie erklärte mir wie es in Australien läuft. Das ich für den öffentlichen Personenverkehr eine MyKi brauche, was eine art Prepaid card ist, wie ich von A nach B komme und vieles mehr. Sie lebt zusammen mit Ihrem Mann Adrian, dem Hund Budda und einer Katze in einer schönen Wohnung in St. Kilda. Ich bereitete mich aufs Festival vor. Adrian lieh mir seine Campingsachen. Ich kaufte Essen und Trinken für die vier Tage ein. Das RSF ist ein “bring deine Sachen mit” Festival. So wird hier zwar Essen, aber kein Alkohol verkauft. Jeder bringt seine Sachen mit und tauscht oder verschenkt dann nach belieben. Als ich die Preise in Australien sah, war ich schwer geschockt. Eine Pizza im Restaurant kostett 25 Dollar und ein Bier dazu dann noch mal 8. Das ist in etwa mein Tagessatz an Geld (der Australische Dollar liegt bei rund 0,65 Euro). Das Ticket kostete mich 300 Dollar. Daher nutze ich die Chance dieses auf dem Festival wieder erarbeiten zu können. Nach einer Bewerbung bekam die Stelle eines Schichtleiters im Helpershut Süd zugewiesen. Schon bevor es losging bekam ich Infomaterial und musste einen kleinen Test machen. Alles war gut erklärt, also kein Thema. :)
Auf dem Festival selber beschloss ich dann nicht so auf das Geld zu gucken, da ich ja auch Arbeiten ging und das Festival sonst einfach nur genießen wollte. Also tat ich es! :) Hier nun ein paar Impressionen vom schönsten Festival Australiens...

I arrived Wednesday and everything was still under construction.

In this construction you see a tent in the middle. Here is a speaker inside and the music which is played here is influenced by the people sitting on the wooden construction around it.
In dieser Konstruktion sieht man in der Mitte ein Zelt. Aus diesem spielt ein Lautsprecher Musik, die beeinflusst wird, durch das Sitzen auf der Holzkonstruktion drumherum.

This area is called Theme camps and runs beside the normal program of the festival. It starts already Thursday. They have around five stages here. Very charming cause it is all a bit smaller and cosy.
Dieses Areal läuft unabhängig vom normalen Festivalprogramm und startet bereits Donnerstags. Hier sind rund fünf Bühnen zu finden. Sehr charmant, da es alles etwas kleiner und gemütlicher gehalten ist.

The Chill Space.
This wall is made under the principle of a earthship. This is a really great idea to build houses while recycling material like old tires, glassbottles and cans.
Diese Wand wurde unter dem Prinzip eines Earthships gebaut. Dies ist eine wirklich gute Idee um Häuser mit Recyclingmaterial zu bauen, wie z. B. alten Reifen, Glasflaschen und Dosen.
Here you can see the inside. The first Earthship is build in Germany and the government blinked with the eyes sometimes to realize it under the strict german law. The concept includes a lot of more ideas of sustainability. For those who are interested here a link with an explanation.
Hier kann man die Innenseite sehen. Das erste Earthship wurde bereit in Deutschland gebaut und die Behörden haben einige Augen zugedrückt um es trotz den strengen Regulierungen realisieren zu können. A big part of the RSF is the history of the owners of the land. The aboriginals. Here they invite the people to see how they lived in the past, connected to the nature.
Ein großer Teil des RSF befasst sich mit der Geschichte der Landeigener. Den Aboriginals. Hier laden sie die Menschen ein, sich ein Bild zu machen, wie sie in der Vergangenheit im Einklang mit der Natur lebten.

On the festival every second or even third person brought a nice costume. This gave the festival a special spirit. :D

He explained his traditional bodypaintings. He said the important thing is, that the hands you see dosen't show you if they come from a white man, or a black man. The only thing they show you is that it is from a human being.
Hier erklärte er seine Körperbemalungen. Er sagte du kannst nicht sehen ob die Hände von einem weissen Mann oder einem Schwarzen stammen. Das einzige was es dir sagt, ist das es von einem Mensch ist.
The flag of the aboriginals shows the red as earth, the yellow sun which is surrounded by everything and the black are the people living on the earth.
Die Fahne der Aboriginals zeigt das Rote als Erde, das Gelbe ist die Sonne die von allem umkreist wird und das Schwarze sind die Menschen, die auf der Erde leben.
He was really nervous, but he did everything right. Even the view words he had to say during a speech. :)

Gill and Sean. With this shield Gill always fooled the people a bit. On the other side she wrote "STOP" and looked really official with her west. So on the road she stopped the cars first for a while to let them rave afterwards. :D
Here you can see a bad example with the rubbish. But you also can see that in the background the people took care about the environment. In general I have to say the people had a really good behavior.
Hier seht ihr ein schlechtes Beispiel was den Müll angeht. Doch im Hintergrund sieht man, dass die Leute ihren Dreck wieder weggeräumt haben. Generell haben sich die Leute da sehr gut benommen, muss ich sagen.
Here you see the recycle angel (how I call them :P). They run around the festival side and go to places like in the picture before, play music and sing as long until the people start to clean up there place. As I heard the story I was sitting already in the car, but I had to make a picture of them. Great job!!! :)
Hier seht ihr die Recyclingengel (wie ich sie nenne :P). Sie laufen über das Gelände und gehen zu Plätzen wie in dem Bild zuvor, spielen Musik und singen so lange, bis die Menschen anfangen aufzuräumen. Als ich von ihnen höre, saß ich schon im Auto, doch ich musste unbedingt noch mal schnell ein Bild mit ihnen machen. Super Job!!! :)
This is how the people in Victoria look like..... ok not really - Minka, the kind girl who drove me to Melbourne told me she never saw this look before. At this point many thanks again for the hike!!! This was a perfect end for a great festival with great people. I can imagine that the Rainbow Serpent Festival is the best festival in hole Australia. Would be really hard to top it!!!!
So sehen die Menschen in Victoria aus.... ok nicht wirklich - Minka das liebe Mädchen, dass mich mitnahm nach Melbourne sagte mir, dass sie sowas zuvor noch nie gesehen habe. An dieser Stelle noch mal vielen Dank für die Mitfahrgelegenheit!!! Das war ein perfektes Ende für ein großartiges Festival mit tollen Menschen. Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass das Rainbow Serpent Festival das beste Festival Australiens ist. Auf jeden Fall wäre es hart zu topen!!! :D

After this "experience" we made our way to the Cameron Highlands. Here we had a day of trekking and some nice adventures in the tea fields. Afterwards we went for some relaxed days to the island Langkawi. This is a tax free island, like Queshm in Iran was already. So here are some impressions...
Nach einer großartigen und intensiven Zeit in Australien machte ich mich auf den Weg nach Malaysia. Hier traf ich auf meinen Freund Dennis. Wir studierten zusammen und er besuchte mich für knapp zwei Wochen. Zuvor war er schon in Singapur unterwegs und wir trafen uns in Kuala Lumpur. Hier wartete er schon in der Reggae Mansion auf mich. Dies ist ein schönes Hostel. Wenn man davon weiss, dass am Wochenende die Dachterrasse in einen Hip Hop Club umfunktioniert und das Schlafzimmer, welches direkt darunter war, sich in eine Bassrolle verwandelt!!! :P
Nach dieser "Erfahrung" haben wir uns auf den Weg zu den Cameron Highlands gemacht. Hier sind wir einen Tag gewandert und haben einige weitere Abenteuer in den Teefeldern erlebt. Anschließend sind wir für ein paar entspannte Tage auf die Insel Langkawi gefahren. Diese ist wie die Insel Qeshm im Iran steuerfrei. Hier einige Eindrücke...

Here we start our way to the Cameron Highlands. In Kuala Lumpur they have privatized the different railways. We can be happy, that we didn't made it to this point in Germany. For every line you have a different machine standing in the station and often a different approach. (coin, card, recipe)
Hier sind wir auf dem Weg zu den Cameron Highlands. In Kuala Lumpur wurden die verschiedenen Zuglinien privatisiert. Wir können froh sein, dass es in Deutschland nicht soweit gekommen ist. Für jede Linie hat man eine andere Maschine am Bahnhof stehen, welche ein anderes Verfahren hat. (Münze, Karte, Quittung)

Those are the leafs of a tea plant. The smallest leaf you take for the milder tea, the medium for the medium and the bigger one for the more bitter tea. The word tea comes from the people in Netherlands who first brought it to Europe and it stands for tasty end aromatic. (end is written with e cause of the Netherlands speech)
Das sind die Blätter eine Teepflanze. Die kleinsten Blätter nimmt man für den milderen Tee, die mittleren, für den mittelstarken und die größeren für den eher bitteren Tee. Das Wort Tee kommt von Holländern, die ihn nach Europa gebracht haben und steht für Tasty end Aromatic. (end wohl wegen dem holländischen so geschrieben)

After the tea fields we went to a cactus and strawberry farm followed by a butterfly farm.

In the night we started our Jungle night tour. Animals are not really existing here, so we hunted for insects mostly.
In der Nacht starteten wir unsere Dschungel Nachttour. Tiere gibt es hier nicht wirklich, drum jagten wir eher nach Insekten.
The next day we made our way to Langkawi. Here you see the famous bridge of Penang the neighbor island.
Am nächsten Tag ging es nach Langkawi. Hier sieht man die berühmte Brücke von Penang der Nachbarinsel.

This is Din. He created the concept of our new home, the T-Star Cottage. Beside some cosy bungalows in the front, they have a backyard. There they have a big garden with a net over it. Here you sleep in big tents and around 50 XXX fly around and sing in the daytime.
Das ist Din. Er kreierte das Konzept unseres neuen Zuhauses, dem T-Star Cottage. Neben einige gemütlichen Bungalows in der Front gibt es noch den hinteren Bereich. Hier ist ein großer Garten überspannt mit einem Netz. Hier schläft man in großen Zelten und es fliegen um die 50 Wellensittiche herum die Tagsüber zwitschern.

First it sounded a bit wired to camp behind the house, but as you see it was very nice. Also you could open almost every side, so it was more comfortable as in the bungalows.
Erst klang es ein bisschen komisch hinterm haus zu zelten, doch wie man sieht war es sehr schön. Auch konnte man fast jede Seite komplett aufmachen, was es angenehmer als in den Bungalows gemacht hat.

Me, Dennis, Robert and Edee. This are our new friends from California and I am very happy to met them. It is often that you met people where you have the feeling that they are 100 percent real. They had always a smile on there face. If you saw them, they just helped to dig out a in the sand stuck car, taking pictures for people or collecting rubbish when passing by. Or Edee was playing her guitar and singing, meanwhile Robert was fascinated as the most people from her show. The Malay people only described them with BIG BIG HEART!
Ich, Dennis, Robert und Edee. Sie sind unsere neuen Freunde aus Kalifornien und ich bin sehr glücklich sie getroffen zu haben. Es passiert nicht oft, dass man Menschen trifft die zu 100 Prozent echt sind. Sie hatten steht's ein Lächeln im Gesicht. Wenn man sie sah waren sie gerade dabei feststeckende Autos auszubuddeln, für Leute Fotos zu machen oder hoben im vorbeigehen herumliegenden Müll auf. Oder Edee spielte Gitarre und sang dazu, während Robert fasziniert wie die Meisten dabei saß und die Show genoss. Die Malaysischen Leuten beschrieben sie nur mit "BIG BIG HEART!".

This day was a special day! We had a jetsky tour for three hours. Was a really great experience. The jetskys where great, the sea was calm and we had a lot of fun. Driving from island to island with a stop on a big island where a old cave collapsed and now there is a sweet water lake. Quality time! :)
Dies war ein sehr besonderer Tag! Wir haben eine Jetskitour gebucht für drei Stunden! Eine wirklich tolle Erfahrung! Die Jetskis waren super, das Meer ruhig und wir hatten eine Menge Spass! Wir fuhren von Insel zu Insel und machten halt auf einer Insel auf der einst eine Höhle zusammenstürzte und nun sich nun ein Süßwassersee befindet. Quality time! :)

This day Edee, Robert and me made a snorkel tour and visited the Lions island. Here lives Hippieman since around three years.
An diesem Tag machten Edee, Robert und ich eine Schnorcheltour und besuchten die Lions Insel aud der Hippieman schon seit drei Jahren lebt.
This is the cosy shack of Hippieman. He decided to disappear from the normal society and live his life on this nice island. :)

The bunkers in the beach front. Here you have the more expensive stuff, which privates the beach and forces the old land owners away.

The Cactus restaurant. A really nice restaurant from a Malay that lived in Germany for many years. Nice food, a nice staff combined with fair prices. Commendable!

Today I have already been traveling for one year. When I started my tour in Frankfurt, I didn't believe how far I would be able to make it. Around 5000KM by cycling and 16 countries for now.
Review:
On the 12.03.2015, I defended my bachelor thesis to start two days later, on 14.03.2015 my journey. Stress!!! Stress!!! Stress!!! Tax declaration, insurances, declaration of power, making my flat empty for the next renter... All things to be clarified! Sometimes I had the feeling of getting nearly a burnout! In such moments I thought "When you once started your tour, it will take a load of your mind!". Than the day of the days came and I started my way "to find myself" as they say. But after a while I had to realize, that I took myself with me on the journey. So stress and hectic have been on the same level like when I started. Arrive, make some kilometers, reach the goals! With the time then I learned to take things easier. Therefore I had to lose almost everything I had for a while. But this is how it works. You only learn from the experiences you made by yourself. :)
Some days ago I held an amulet in my hands. On its back it was written "The best thing about traveling is coming home!".... That's true! So I have moments, when I look forward to coming home, seeing my family and all my friends again. But before I want to go on for a while! ;) So the flight to Australia is booked for the end of April. Here I will work for half a year to save money to see Australia and New Zealand afterwards. Then South America for sure! I am really happy, that so many people still follow my journey. My blog has more than 20.000 clicks for now! Thank you for that! :) So stay curious about what the future brings!

PS: Many thanks for the donations of Michael, Christoper and Fabian! Cause the donations have been mostly a bit more than one beer I decided to invite the next person behind me. The people looked a bit irritated and say things like "the next is on me!", but then I explain them, that they should make someone else a favour and we create the chain of friendliness. So they make the next one happy and the world a better place. :)
Rückblick:
Am 12.03.2015 habe ich noch meine Bachelorthesis verteidigt um dann zwei Tage später am 14.03.2015 loszufahren. Stress!!! Stress!!! Stress!!! Steuererklärung, Versicherungen, Vollmachten, Wohnung leer räumen und übergeben.. Alles Dinge die geklärt werden mussten. Zweitweise hatte ich das Gefühl kurz vorm Burnout zu stehen. In diesen Momenten dachte ich mir "Wenn du erstmal losgefahren bist, dann fällt das alles ab wie ein Stein!". Dann kam der Tag der Tage und ich machte mich auf den Weg "um mich selbst zu finden", wie man so schön sagt. Nach einiger Zeit musste ich jedoch feststellen, dass ich mich mitgenommen hatte. So waren Stress und innere Hektik noch auf einem ähnlichen Level. Ankommen, Kilometer machen, Ziele erreichen. Mit der Zeit erst lernte ich, die Dinge gelassener zu sehen. Dazu musste ich erst einmal fast alles verlieren, doch so ist das eben. Man lernt nur aus Erfahrungen, die man selber gemacht hat. :)
Vor einigen Tagen hielt ich ein Amulet in meinen Händen auf dessen Rückseite stand geschrieben "The best thing about traveling is coming home!".... da ist was dran! Und so gibt es bei mir natürlich immer wieder Momenten, da freue ich mich, wieder nach hause zu kommen, meine Familie und alle meine Freunde wieder zu sehen. Doch zuvor möchte ich noch eine Weile unterwegs sein. ;) Der Flug nach Australien ist für Ende April gebucht. Hier werde ich dann ein halbes Jahr arbeiten, um anschließend Australien und Neuseeland sehen zu können. Dann geht es weiter nach Südamerika. Ich freue mich, dass so viele Leute meine Reise verfolgen. Aktuell hat mein Blog hier über 20.000 Klicks! Danke dafür! :) Also bleiben wir gespannt was die Zukunft bringt! :)

PS: Vielen Dank für die Spenden von Michael, Christopher und Fabian! Hier habe ich mich entschlossen, da die Spenden meisten für mehr als ein Bier reichten einfach die nächste Person hinter mir noch mit einzuladen. Die Leute gucken meist ziemlich irritiert und sagen Dinge wie "das nächste geht auf mich!". Dann erkläre ich ihnen, dass sie einfach wann anders jemandem eine kleine Freude machen sollen und wir so die Freundlichkeitenkette erzeugen. So machen sie dann den nächsten glücklich. Kleine Gesten, die die Welt zu einem besseren Ort machen. :)
